What is Biofeedback & How can it help me?

Biofeedback is a process that enables an individual to learn how to change physiological activity for the purposes of improving health and performance. Precise instruments measure physiological activity such as brainwaves, heart function, breathing, muscle activity, and skin temperature. These instruments rapidly and accurately "feed back" information to the user. The presentation of this information — often in conjunction with changes in thinking, emotions, and behavior — supports desired physiological changes. Over time, these changes can endure without continued use of an instrument.

-Definition adopted by BCIA, AAPB, and ISNR (May 18, 2008)

Biofeedback instruments measure physiological responses to stress and stimuli.  The responses are "fed-back" back to you via a computer screen.  By observing your physiology in real-time, you can become more in-touch with you body.  More importantly, your mind-body connection.

Biofeedback is for most ages.  Children enjoy playing games with thier heart-rate patterns and watching movies powered by thier brainwave patterns!

Biofeedback is used in conjuction with counseling in order for you (the client) to visually see how your body reacts to stress and stimlui.  By visually experiencing and seeing changes in your physiology, you can learn how to independently control your responses to stress and stimuli!  Biofeedback teaches you to TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR BODY AND FEELINGS INDEPENDENTLY!

Biofeedback is great for ALL AGES!  Lindsay Hollmuller has extensive pediatric experience and has a natural repoire with adolescents.  Adults benefit most from the stress management component of Biofeedback and headache and muscle tension managment.

What is the difference between Biofeedback and Neurofeedback?

Neurofeedback, or Neurotherapy, or EEG Biofeedback is Biofeedback specifically for the brain.  By measuring brainwave frequencies, specialized software determines the "normalization" of these patterns.  When a desired frequency is present, or when an undesired frequency is not present, the client will recieve a "reward".  In most cases while watching a movie, the picture will become brighter and the volume louder.  Neurofeedback is a learning technique and is based off of learning theory's operant conditioning.
